Everyone encounters stress on any day of the week. Some will say it’s a part of life. Many men get stressed about finances while women stress about body image and work. Do we have enough money to pay the rent? Can I fit into my size 7 jeans? Worrying about such things leaves a toll on your body and well-being. Headaches ensure, back aches arise and even heart palpitations occur.

Stress causes your body to go into flight or fight mode and pumps your body of adrenaline and cortisone. This overworks your adrenal glands which can cause you to become on edge and later tired and listless.
It’s nearly impossible to avoid stress but there are ways to lessen the effects. One great way is aromatherapy. Aromatherapy uses your sense of smell to relax your brain and adrenal glands and soothe your mind. Certain smells from oils bring about certain feelings.
When you use aromatherapy, make sure you are in a quiet relaxing room of the house such as your bedroom or bathroom. Take a few deep breaths before lighting any aromatherapy candles or aromatherapy oils. As you continue to deep breathe, let the smell absorb your senses and let your mind wander to where it wants to go. Doing this will alleviate any tension you may harbor on your back.
Some common oils to soothe the mind and relax the body include, but are not limited to,
- lavender
- sandalwood
- chamomile
- nutmeg
- neroli
- orange
